Biography

Working mainly with the human figure, using a wide variety of cast materials, Lucy has established a name for herself as sculptor with the unique ability to combine the beauty and poise of classical sculpture with thought provoking contemporary subjects.

Whilst some of her pieces are very large, there is nothing monumental about this work, being more akin to Kiki Smith than Anthony Gormley. Deeply human, deeply intimate; rather than convey concepts or make statements, her poised pieces invoke atmospheres and communicate states of being, transitions or moments of experience…perhaps like a snapshot of time or experience in three dimensions. Her subject is essentially that which is both personal and universal and by definition, most effectively conveyed in three dimensions and images. Although there is a quietness about these figures they are none the less thought provoking and occasionally, disturbing.  Lucy's sources are words, her own poetry and photographs from which she crystallises in her mind the inner state she's aiming to invoke and then develops the figure.
